I finished knitting this socks - my own “invention” - a couple of months ago and since the Romanian market does not offer a lot of options (crapy old “Red Coats” - “Sport Socks”, which comes in about 4 dull colors and it’s only 75% wool) when it comes to wool I thought it would be a good idea to submit the pattern to Knitty, asking to be paid in wool instead of money. Since the pattern was rejected by Knitty I only have to look forward to my next trip abroad when I’ll be able to do some wool shopping. (I’m mentioning the rejection because I have noticed that many people google “rejected by knitty” hoping that the result will give them an idea of this magazine’s standards - here is an exemple)

You’ve got a very interesting blog, I’ve subscribed to it, beautiful knitting! The rejection itself is less important, I was hoping to have the opportunity to knit using some decent quality wool…)

Love this sock design! And I know how you feel about the availability of yarns - until recently, Cork was every bit as bad as Bucharest! Now I tend to buy in lorry loads whenever I’m abroad.
Happy to send you a skein of sock yarn if you PM me!
Jo (in windy, wet and cold West Cork)

Love the pattern and would like to make a pair. Thanks for making such a cool looking sock……….Mary

Gorgeous pattern! You have a problem locating quality sock weight yarns? How about learning to spin your own? I took up spinning almost a year ago and have spun sock weight on both a wheel and a hand spindle. Does Romania have sheep, alpaca and or angora goat farms? If so, it should be possible to get fibre to use.

Beautiful socks. Knitty or no knitty, I would love to make a pair of these. You did a wonderful job on them.

Really lovely design! I’m completely intrigued by the structure - it is beautifully balanced. The name is a perfect description of the delicate pattern. Gotta knit these for myself! Thanks.

These socks are beautiful, and we who follow Knitty really missed out here…but glad you’re sharing and posting on ravelry for everyone!

They remind me of old English tales and knights, don’t know why but they’re terrific!
Comment by Marilyn — August 8, 2009 @ 9:31 am
Found your pattern on the free knitting patterns web site. I love the openness of the lace pattern on these socks. Solid wool socks are just too warm in west Texas. I’m a big fan of leaf lace patterns and these are great!

I love the open work in the pattern. I would love to have this pattern to try. You might want to try Knit Picks for some good sock yarn. They are pretty reasonable too!!

That’s lovely! I love both leafy things and lace, and these are a beautiful combination of both. I think I would prefer them to be knee-length, but I’m sure they could easily be modified to do that.
Comment by Lisa in TX — August 18, 2009 @ 7:32 pm
Love this pattern. Cannot believe it was rejected. I’m a sucker for a leaf design. Would love to get a copy. I even have the PERFECT sock yarn waiting. Thank You!!!

Oh… these are so pretty. They’ll look great in my sandals (Yes, I am one of “those” who wears socks with her sandals… but only nice socks :D).
Thanks for sharing and boo to Knitty for rejecting them!

I love the leaves…they really stand out! I’d like to give them a whirl. Just for curiosity’s sake, what’s the gauge of the pattern? I can’t get sock yarn here in Japan, best I can get is DK weight. It’s difficult finding sock patterns for thicker yarn.
Comment by Lauri — August 21, 2009 @ 10:20 am
Oh, they are gorgeus!

I love the leaves! Looks great to me so don’t see why they said no. Looking forward to trying them. Have you tried ordering yarn on-line? I know you can’t touch the yarn but better than nothing.
Comment by Laura — August 28, 2009 @ 7:01 pm

OOOh me please - can I get a copy of the pattern too?
These are lovely socks! We have much the same sock yarn problem in Tasmania, but the internet is a great saviour - nearly all my sock yarn comes from somewhere else!
Comment by Tinkingbell — September 2, 2009 @ 3:16 am
What a lovely pair of socks! Don’t let one rejection keep you from continuing to design…sometimes that decision is made in order to “balance” what is offered in each issue.
Would love a copy of your pattern!

Your design is gorgeous, thanks for sharing. I love leaf patterns and yours has a gorgeous structure.
I’ve found lots of wonderful online sources of sock yarn that ship internationally, drop me a line if you’re interested and I’ll let you know my favourites

Tia, these socks are really quite lovely. The pattern is quite inspired. and I’m sorry that Knitty missed out.
Thanks for making the pattern available…I followed a link through ravelry to your site.

i can’t believe these were not accepted by knitty. they are gorgeous and i would be honored to be able to knit them, if you would please send the pattern. i can’t afford to send you some yarn right now (my husband just lost his job) but when things are better and i can afford shipping to Romania (yikes!) i’d love to repay your generosity of sharing your pattern with the most beautiful sock yarn i can find.

I’ve tried several computers two at home and in the libraries but have not been sucessful. Would you please send me a copy of the leaves of cascade pattern to my e-mail.
